To create self-reliant tribal communities who move beyond freebies and claim the opportunities they rightfully deserve.
About Tribal Treasure
Tribal Treasures Private Limited is a Social and ecological enterprise working to regenerate traditional tribal industries through sustainable innovation, indigenous knowledge, and community-led livelihoods.
We believe that forests can only survive when the communities protecting them can live with dignity from them. For generations, tribal communities have safeguarded biodiversity, preserved traditional food systems, and lived in harmony with nature. But today, many traditional occupations are disappearing due to lack of modernization, market access, and sustainable income opportunities. As youth move away from these livelihoods, valuable ecological wisdom and cultural identity are slowly fading.
Tribal Treasures was created to reverse this cycle.
By combining traditional knowledge with appropriate technology and sustainable enterprise models, we work to transform forest-based occupations into dignified, year-round livelihood opportunities rooted in ecology and culture.
Why We Exist
- We exist to build self-reliant tribal communities that can preserve their roots while creating sustainable futures.
- Our work focuses on reconnecting tribal youth with traditional ecological knowledge, strengthening community ownership, and creating local employment opportunities within tribal hamlets.
- We aim to regenerate not only livelihoods, but also the ecological and cultural systems that have protected forests for generations.
What We Do
Our initiatives focus on:
- Sustainable forest honey harvesting
- Revival of indigenous crops and traditional foods
- Machinization of Traditional Tribal Occupation.
- Regeneration of Tribal Industries.
- Tribal micro-enterprises and value addition
- Ecological conservation through livelihoods
- Skill development and entrepreneurship for tribal youth.
We currently work with tribal communities across Kerala, Karnataka, and Meghalaya, supporting local livelihoods through scientific processing, clean-label production, community enterprises, and market access.
Our work includes the revival of indigenous crops such as 9-month millets and Lakadong turmeric, documentation of traditional superfoods, and research into ready-to-cook forest-based nutritious foods inspired by indigenous food systems.
Our Approach
We believe development should not disconnect communities from their identity or ecology. Instead of replacing traditional occupations, we work to regenerate and strengthen them using innovation, sustainable design, and enterprise development.
Our approach combines:
- Indigenous wisdom
- Ecological sustainability
- Appropriate technology
- Community participation
- Ethical value chains
- Long-term livelihood regeneration
Our Vision
We envision a future where tribal communities lead thriving ecological enterprises, forests remain protected through community stewardship, and traditional knowledge systems are valued as solutions for a sustainable world.
We are not just creating products from the forest.
We are regenerating a relationship between communities, culture, and ecology.
Recognition & Innovation
Tribal Treasures Private Limited has been selected for the UYARE Grant by IIT Palakkad Technology I Hub Foundation (IPTIF) to develop an automated forest honey harvesting system focused on making wild honey harvesting safer, sustainable, and technologically enabled.
The innovation aims to modernize traditional forest honey harvesting through appropriate technology while preserving indigenous knowledge and strengthening dignified livelihood opportunities for tribal communities. The project focuses on reducing physical risk during honey harvesting, improving efficiency, and transforming seasonal honey collection into a more sustainable year-round livelihood model.
Tribal Treasures was also selected as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) in Social Enterprise under the DISHA programme of IPTIF to work on integrating IoT-based solutions into the forest honey harvesting system. The initiative aims to combine traditional ecological knowledge with emerging technologies to build scalable, community-centered innovations for forest-based livelihoods and conservation.
Through these initiatives, Tribal Treasures is working at the intersection of indigenous wisdom, ecological conservation, and responsible technology innovation.
